Description

Conformal field theory (CFT) is an important subject in theoretical physics. It appears roughly in three different major areas of research. 1. Quantum field theories at long distance usually have enhanced conformal symmetry and are described by CFTs. 2. In string perturbation theory, two dimensional CFTs are used to describe the dynamics of the world-sheet of strings. 3. Quantum gravity in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space (AdS) is holographically dual to CFT by the AdS/CFT correspondence.

This course will cover nonperturbative methods in CFT, with applications to string theory, quantum gravity, and particle physics.
