I will start from the basic geometric and combinatorial aspects of toric varieties. Then I will discuss various properties of toric varieties including the singularities and compactness, torus action, topology, line bundles and divisors, moment maps, cohomology, and intersection theory. If there is enough time, I will also discuss the relation between toric varieties and mathematical physics.
