An Introduction to Knot Theory

via the Alexander and Jones Invariants

Abstract:

This sequence of talks aims to introduce the intricate world of knots and links through their topological and algebraic representations. We will begin with the basic language of knot diagrams and tensor products of vector spaces, progressing towards topological invariants such as the Alexander and Jones polynomials, explored through their various presentations (topological, representation theoretic, skein relations).
