Agenda:
About the Award
S.-T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contest is initiated by Professor Shing-Tung Yau in 2010, which faces to the college students in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The aim of the contest is to fully test the comprehensive knowledge, ability and accomplishment of college students, and promote the development of mathematics education in Chinese universities.
Under the strong support of Professor Shing-Tung Yau and famous mathematicians across the world, S.-T. Yau College Mathematic Contests has been successfully held for the eight time. More than
9000college students from 400 universities have taken part in the contest, including 460 Award winners. About half of the winners have taken up advanced studies in the famous universities, such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Harvard University, MIT, Yale University, and Princeton University.
S.-T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contest has played important roles in training Chinese mathematics talents. It has become an important way to explore and select outstanding postgraduates. Meanwhile, its performance has been listed as an important reference for matriculating mathematical graduate students in the famous universities across the world.
Compare with the previous contests, there will be new changes in the assessment content, the 2019 contest will be more extensively assess students’ basic mathematics knowledge and how they relate math to the emerging direction--in the subject Probability and Statistics there would be more questions related to big data; while the subject Applied Math and Computational Math students would be test more on artificial intelligence.
