Lecture 1
Title: What is categorical representation theory?
Abstract: Representation theory is traditionally the study of groups acting on vector spaces. More and more, it has also begun to encompass groups acting on linear categories. This talk will be an introduction to this frontier with an emphasis on why it is useful even for classical questions.
Lecture 2
Title: Invariant functions on commuting pairs
Abstract: The Chevalley restriction theorem describes those functions on Lie algebras and Lie groups that are invariant under conjugation. A longstanding question has been to generalize this to functions on collections of commuting group elements. This talk will describe recent work with Penghui Li and Zhiwei Yun resolving the case of pairs of commuting group elements.
