We consider a class of Markov processes of jump type on ultra-metric spaces. Under certain assumptions we obtain upper and lower estimates of the heat kernel in terms of the properties of the jump measure. Besides, we describe classification of regular metric spaces by means of the walk dimension. The latter is equal to 2 for Euclidean spaces, and infinity for ultra-metric spaces, and is in (2, infinity) for fractals.
