The Complex Analysis Seminar is centered on complex analysis and its interactions with other areas of mathematics. Its principal interests include analysis on metric measure spaces, geometric function theory and complex dynamics. Geometric connections encompass Riemann surfaces, Kleinian groups, hyperbolic geometry, Teichmüller theory, and geometric group theory. At the interface with probability, the seminar will explore random geometry and its connections with complex analysis. Possible topics include the geometry of Brownian motion and related random spaces; random curves and loops described by Schramm–Loewner evolution and conformal loop ensembles; and random fields, measures, and surfaces studied through the Gaussian free field, Gaussian multiplicative chaos, and Liouville quantum gravity. Beyond complex analysis, the seminar will also explore topics from related fields, such as harmonic analysis, geometric measure theory, and fractal geometry, reflecting participants’ broader mathematical interests.
The seminar will focus primarily on reading and discussing classical papers and books. Participants are encouraged to present selected material, work carefully through proofs, and contribute questions and examples. Discussions will emphasize the motivation for key definitions, the ideas underlying proofs, and the connections between different methods. Through sustained engagement with the literature, the seminar aims to help students develop mathematical independence, confidence in presenting arguments, and a deeper appreciation of the subject.
Undergraduate and graduate students are warmly welcome. Reading topics and references will be selected jointly, taking participants’ interests and backgrounds into account. Students are encouraged to suggest material they would like to understand and to participate through both presentations and discussion. The seminar offers an opportunity to explore new interests and connect with fellow students who share their curiosity.
Alongside the regular study meetings, occasional research talks by visiting mathematicians and other invited speakers will introduce recent developments and offer opportunities for direct academic exchange.
The seminar is organized by Professor Wenbo Li, and we will meet once a week.
