Description:

The aim of the course is to understand the relation between Weil-Peterson distance and volumes of convex cores a topic that first appears in the work of Brock in in the late '90s. The course is divided into 3 parts:

1. The geometry of the convex core of a  quasi-fuchsian manifold in terms of the short geodesics following Jorgensen, Thurston, Minsky et al.

2. he theory of the renormalised volume of such manifolds following Schlenker and Krasnov.

3. Finally we discuss how the two topics are related to the Weil-Peterson geometry of moduli space.


Prerequisite:

Some basic notions from Riemann geometry – geodesics, volume and one dimensional complex geometry.
